I assisted my niece to leave a boyfriend who was part of a cult

Hello, hard to believe this can happen in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada!

Our niece is a beautiful, intelligent girl and had her pick of boyfriends, well this fellow convinced her to date him and all of a sudden she started attending his family's church.

She started talking about how she was having to attend church every WEDNESDAY and also how she would start spending the nights on Saturday at the family's house so she would not be LATE for church which took place every Sunday. (sometimes twice a day!)

Whenever we asked her the NAME of the church, she said it does NOT have a name! But she enjoyed the fellowship and the talks.

However, if the CHURCH schedule ever conflicted with her University studies or work...the CHURCH was the winner in the boyfriend's books. Also, he was so clingy, smothering her with his attention, and did not want her to have her own friends OR to even have time to herself!

She started to get very tired as he would INSIST on coming over after she worked a long day at 10:00 and stay with her until 12:00. She got very tired and sleep deprived.

After awhile she started to say that she was feeling very depressed, and her boyfriend was being very controlling and moody! The FATHER of the boyfriend was the BOSS and the boyfriend was part of the family business so he had to listen to his dad.

No premarital sex
No wearing of makeup for her at church
She HAD to wear a skirt to her knees
No jewellery other than a watch or special ring

This just sounded WEIRD to us...we ARE living in 2015!!!! Not 1890's!!!!!

As an Auntie I DID not know any of this....if I did I would have tried to help her to leave this situation earlier!

Well our family accomplished this last week, she broke it off with him and we have ALL been there for her! Texting and keeping in touch, letters you name it! Peronal counselling!

So I really hope this remains the same....she has been seeing friends now and other chances for a NEW boyfriend.

This has been one of the most DRAINING situations ever! She was sooooo unhappy and she felt TRAPPED!

If you know of anyone that might be in this situation do a REAL good check-in. You can lose this person to the CULT! It is scary!

Also this family had UN-ENDING sources of money....they went on about 5 family trips a year...5 star resorts....and their kids all went to public school....hmmmmmmm..maybe to recruit partners for the kids?

THIS STUFF IS SCARY!!!! Thanks for the venue for this, as I have had a hard time with this!
