Career Change
Medical School

Thinking or doing?

If you're a medic thinking of a career change medical school is the time to do it.

If you're in medical school and thinking about a career change, do it now!

If you've applied for medical college, you're thinking about a career change, medical school is looming, don't go!

Avoid the pains

If you're not happy where you are, do something about it. Staying in medical school is a huge mistake for several reasons.

The work load gets heavier as time passes. Medical students are one of the very few groups where everyone expects to use their degree after they qualify. That means that you will probably go on to work as a doctor someplace. And the longer you leave it, the more difficult it is to move out.

Go for the gains...

If you don't like it, this will have been a waste of these years of your life. You'd be much better off doing something you actually enjoy and building the experience and the skills in the area that you're passionate about.

Decide!

I'll say it again. If you're thinking about a career change, medical school is not the place to stay.

Give up any concerns about what other people will think, and make your own decisions about how you want to live your own life. And move out!

'Wish for your deepest desires', she said, and when I asked if they'd come true, she said 'They always do, so get them out in the open while you're still young enough to correct any serious mistakes.'

- Brian Andreas

In more than one medical school, on day one, the professors tell the first year students that if they are thinking of leaving, they should do so sooner rather than later.

This gives you more time to create the future that you really want for yourself...
